Growth

Starting my second year of teaching was very exciting. After teaching my first full year online, I was very excited to get back in the classroom and interact with students and peers in person.  After comparing and contrasting my CSTP self-assessments, it is evident that there has been much personal and professional growth this year. At the beginning of the school year, my main goal was to modify and incorporate engaging lessons and unit objectives while integrating WICOR (Writing. Inquiry. Collaboration. Organization. Reading) and IB curriculum. Throughout my induction this year the I have worked with CSTP 4.4 Planning instruction that incorporates appropriate strategies to meet the learning needs of all students, CSTP 2.5 Developing, communicating, and maintaining high standards for individual and group behavior, and CSTP 6.3 Collaborating with colleagues and the broader professional community to support teacher and student learning. After reflecting on this past year, I believe to have found most success in working with CSTP 6.3. Collaborating with colleagues has helped me implement a school wide student store and running club which all students have access to which is not limited to my classroom. Students were provided with opportunities that they may not have had the ability to explore, if I did not collaborate with peers, and the community at large. Overall, throughout the induction process, I have not only grown as a teacher but also as an individual and value the strategies and skills I have learned and enhanced during this time.

Reflection

My overall experience this year as a teacher was very positive, I had much success with engaging students and creating a positive learning environment. I found that evaluating students' movement patterns and providing them feedback in person was a lot easier than it was online.  I was able to provide them with the opportunity to socially reconnect with one another after a year and a half of learning online. I am very proud to see my students grow and develop a love of movement through dance, games and having positive interactions with one another. I hope to continuously learn and grow as an educator as a progress in my professional teaching career. Overall,  I am looking forward to attending IB and AVID training in person this upcoming year while learning and growing as a  professional educator.
